Maggie Gyllenhaal seemed to come out of nowhere when she rocked Hollywood via the arthouse route in the S&M romantic comedy Secretary. But in fact, Mags is part of a Hollywood dynasty, including director dad Stephen Gyllenhaal – she debuted in his Waterland – screenwriter mom Naomi Foner, and younger brother actor Jake Gyllenhaal (the dork from Donnie Darko [2001]). Maggie had also already appeared in several movies prior to Secretary, such as John Waters’s Cecil B. DeMented , Pornagrapher: A Love Story , Donnie Darko, and Riding in Cars with Boys. But after her skintastic performance in Secretary everything else falls away – just like Maggie’s clothing! Maggie went on to appear in Adaptation and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind , before she upped the ecdysiastical ante in the 2004 HBO drama Stripsearch. Playing an American prisoner in Red China, Maggie is forced to submit to the titular ordeal and we, the viewers, are forced to witness every naked inch of her long, lithe, supple form being groped, poked, pinched, lifted and spread apart by a commie creep who seems especially suspicious that she may be hiding something in her Mao-Mao’s. As a commentary on personal freedom, Stripsearch aims to provide food for thought; as an all-points display of Maggie Gyllenhaal in the nude, it’s a downright feast for the sort of thoughts that, in some places, can get you locked up!
