She’s this millennium’s Jaws morsel, only times have changed and nudity in a mainstream movie doesn’t have to be silhouetted. She opens Open Water with a splash of full-frontal nudity that will make you afraid to go to the movies again, because how can they live up to that kind of flesh-fest? Before this summer thriller sent her to the top of the marquee, Blanchard had been toiling in obscurity, an unknown on All My Children, but showing promise in provocatively titled movies such as Remembering Sex. One thing’s for certain: After showing her ripe, rich, round mangoes and delicious dark patch in Open Water, Blanchard will be remembered much more fondly than as mere seafood for seafood.
