Her wholesome early roles quickly gave way to naked displays in Last Summer (1969), The Baby Maker (1970), and Boxcar Bertha (1972). Improbably, Barbara then emerged as a serious actress in the ’80s, thanks to her great performance in the intellectual ghost story The Entity (1983). (Her ghostly sex scenes would later be parodied by Tori Spelling in Scary Movie 2 [2001].) Critical acclaim can’t keep Barbara’s clothes on, though, and she showed off a very sexy maturity in The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and Drowning on Dry Land (1999).
